Biographical
John R. Cannon Jr. concentrates his practice in the areas of mediation and arbitration as a neutral. Mr. Cannon has been a partner in both The Hardison Law Firm and Shuttleworth Williams, PLLC and has practiced law in the Memphis and West Tennessee area since 1974. During this time Mr. Cannon concentrated his practice as a trial lawyer representing both plaintiffs and defendants. He has extensive jury and non- jury trial experience involving wrongful death, medical malpractice, construction disputes, insurance coverage disputes, professional liability, and catastrophic accident cases. Mr. Cannon also has extensive appellate experience with more than 15 reported cases.
Mr. Cannon has been a Rule 31 listed mediator since 1999. Mr. Cannon has mediated successfully hundreds of civil disputes involving professional malpractice, including legal and medical malpractice cases, complex commercial cases, employment disputes, personal-injury disputes and insurance coverage matters. Mr. Cannon employs a combination of facilitative and evaluative mediation, supplemented by his 30 plus years experience as a litigator. His background, experience and skill make him a highly effective mediator with a proven track record of resolving disputes.

Memberships & Affiliations
Mr. Cannon is a member of the Memphis Bar Association and the Tennessee Bar Association. He has been a member of the Board of Directors of the Memphis Bar Association twice, 1989 to 1991 and 2005 to 2007. He is presently Vice-President of the Memphis Bar Association and will become President in 2010. He is a member of the Memphis Bar Foundation and the Leo Bearman Sr. Inn of Court. Mr. Cannon has also been a hearing committee member for the Tennessee Board of Professional Responsibility. He has been included in Midsouth Superlawyers for 2008 and 2009in the practice area of alternative dispute resolution. He is an AV rated lawyer by Martindale -Hubbell.
